2009 Indie Book Awards Names Five Headline Books Titles Finalists



(Terra Alta)—The Indie Book Awards has named as Finalists: Sniper Bid by Rick Robinson—Best General Fiction/Novel, Blood Kin & Other Strangers by Patsy Evans Pittman—Best Short Story Fiction, The Duke of Dubai by Luigi Falconi—Best Multicultural Fiction, Kyle’s Colorful Life by Drema McNeal, illustrated by Kasey Short—Best Children’s Picture Book and Teddy Bear’s Favorite Pictures by Nancy J. Cloyd and Delia Bowman Wach as one of the Best in Children’s Education/Academic category.


The Next Generation Indie Book Awards is one of the most prestigious book awards for independent publishers and authors worldwide and was established to recognize and honor the most exceptional independently published books in 70 different categories and is presented by Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group in cooperation with Marilyn Allen of Allen O'Shea Literary Agency. All books are judged for their content. The judges include expert editors, writers and publishers in the book publishing industry.


National publicity will begin at Book Expo America in New York City May 29 at the Javits Convention Center. Author Rick Robinson will be on hand for interviews and a book signing in the Independent Book Publisher’s Association booth on Saturday, May 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.


“All these authors are deserving of this award,” said Cathy Teets, president of Headline Books. “For Rick Robinson, Patsy Pittman and Delia Wach this award comes on the heels of previous recognized awards for their outstanding books and talent. Luigi Falconi, Drema McNeal, Kasey Short and Nancy J. Cloyd are enjoying the beginnings of many awards to come,” she said. The caliber of competition is fierce in national competitions and our books have done very well,” Teets said. “All titles are selling very well and these are some of our most sought after authors for speaking engagements and workshops.”


In addition to the recognition and prestige of having an award-winning book, Finalists will also receive a listing in the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Awards Catalog and inclusion on www.IndieBookAwards.com. Along with cash prizes to the winners, a gold award emblem will be affixed to the front cover as a Finalist in their respective categories.

The Finalists will also be reviewed by the Allen O'Shea Literary Agency in New York for possible representation in areas such as distribution, foreign rights, film rights, and other rights. Literary agent Marilyn Allen has over 25 years of experience, including serving as Senior Vice President, Associate Publisher, and Director of Marketing for Harper Collins and directing sales and marketing teams for Simon & Schuster, Penguin Books and Avon Books. Ms. Allen has had the pleasure of working with many best-selling authors including Stephen King, Ken Follett, Barbara Kingsolver, John Gray, Mary Higgins Clark, and many more.
